Food has its way of unifying cultures all over the world. This year, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics focuses attention on healthful eating and embracing global cultures, cuisines, and inclusivity. This month also highlights the expertise and skill of registered nutritionists.
This year’s theme, “Celebrate a World of Flavors”, showcases the importance of giving a place for every culture and cuisine at the table. Through food and every culture’s unique way of nourishing themselves, we aim to “celebrate cultural heritage, traditions, recipes, as well as finding appreciation in our diversity,” says registered dietitian nutritionist Libby Mills, a national spokesperson for the Academy in Philadelphia, PA.
This Nutrition Month, everyone is encouraged to make informed food choices and develop sound eating and physical activity habits they can follow all year long. The advice of food and nutrition experts are also encouraged and should be followed to help everyone develop individualized eating and activity plans to meet health goals.
