Tips to Prepare a Senior’s Home for Receiving Home Care

When the time comes when your aging parent or loved one requires additional help with day-to-day activities, home care is an excellent care option. With home care, seniors receive the right level of support from the comfort of their homes. To help prepare for this transition, we have gathered a few tips to get your senior loved one’s home ready to receive care:

Make a list of pertinent information.

To make the transition easier for both your loved one and the new in-home caregiver, create a list with important information. This should include your loved one’s dietary needs, a list of allergies, and medication schedules. Additionally, it should also include phone numbers of emergency family contacts and your loved one’s care team, including their preferred pharmacy.

Organize the kitchen.

In addition to assisting with mobility and personal care, your loved one’s new caregiver may also help prepare meals and snacks. Hence, the kitchen should be well-organized and stocked with the necessary ingredients. Create a list of your loved one’s preferred food and put labels on kitchen items and cupboards to make navigation easier.

Assign an area for a central caregiving station.

Once your loved one’s new in-home caregiver arrives, your family will benefit from receiving additional help. For many families, this entails sharing important responsibilities. By setting up a central caregiving station, you have an area in the household where everyone can communicate easily. A simple whiteboard and calendar where you can leave notes will be extremely helpful for ensuring everyone is on the same page.

These are just a few tips to help prepare a senior’s home for additional help. By following these tips, you help ease the transition into home care.
